The scriptures and the lives of typical laypeople of the Buddha's time show that the ideal layperson model mentioned by the Buddha is quite specific and detailed. According to the scriptures, an ideal layperson must perfect four basic qualities: Economic stability; dignified conduct; balance and harmony; protecting and promoting the Dharma.
