Tụng lễ Vu Lan (song ngữ)

blankTỤNG LỄ VU LAN (ULLAMBANA CELEBRATION CHANT)

Hôm nay là ngày
 Chúng Tăng Tự tứ
 ngày hội Vu Lan
Toàn thể chúng con,
 Tăng, Ni, Phật tử
 hồi tâm tưởng nhớ
 Tôn giả Mục Liên
 tu hành đã chứng
 Lục Thông La-Hán
 vẫn còn thương mẹ.
Chẳng biết nơi nao
 sáu đạo luân hồi?
Quyết tâm tìm kiếm.
Thiên nhãn soi cùng,
 đến nơi ngạ quỉ
 mẹ ta đây rồi
 lang thang đói khổ.
Ruột đau như cắt,
 khôn thể ngồi yên.
Liền đi khất thực
 được bát cơm đầy.
Dùng thần tức thông,
 đem cơm dâng mẹ.
Nhìn thấy bát cơm,
 mẹ mừng khôn xiết.
Tay vừa bốc ăn
 cơm liền hóa lửa.
Đớn đau khó tả;
 rơi lệ dầm dề,
 vội lui trở về
 cầu Thế Tôn cứu.
Thế Tôn chỉ dạy
 lập hội Vu Lan
 thỉnh mười phương Tăng
 đồng tâm cầu nguyện.
Lễ hội vừa xong,
 cõi trời mẹ đến.
Mục Liên hớn hở
 vui vẻ khôn cùng.
Lại hỏi Phật thêm:
 con hiếu sau này
 Mẹ cha quá cố,
 lập hội được chăng?
Phật liền dạy rằng:
 thiết lễ Vu Lan
 cứu độ lục thân
 bảy đời cha mẹ.
Nhớ gương Mục Liên,
 người con hiếu thảo
 tu chứng giải thoát,
 vẫn quý mẹ cha.
Huống nữa chúng con.
 còn là phàm tục,
Công ơn cha mẹ
 trời bể khôn bì;
Bổn phận làm con,
 làm sao quên được?
Dâng hiến trọn đời
 chưa tròn chữ hiếu.
Thân con có ra
 từ nơi cha mẹ.
Dù nát thân này
 chẳng đủ đền ân.
Con nào dám nghĩ
 bỏ mẹ quên cha?
Có ai ruột rà
 bằng cha với mẹ?
Sanh thành khổ nhọc!
 nuôi dưỡng tâng tiu
 miễn con khỏe vui,
 là cha mẹ thích.
Con vừa chớm bệnh,
 cha mẹ buồn rầu.
Chạy ngược chạy xuôi
 rước thầy tìm thuốc.
Chỉ nghĩ đến con,
 mà quên khổ nhọc.
Con là hòn ngọc
 của quý mẹ cha.
Vắng mặt con thơ,
 mẹ cha sầu thảm.
Dù con khôn lớn,
 cha mẹ nào quên,
 thương mãi thương hoài,
 đến ngày nhắm mắt.
Hy sinh cả đời
 cũng vì con trẻ;
Muốn con được vui,
 quên mình tạo tội.
Đời này đã khổ,
 kiếp khác nào an?
Càng nghĩ đến Người,
 lòng con se thắt.
Nguyện tu tinh tấn
 làm những điều lành.
Dâng công đức này
 đền ân cha mẹ.
Xin trên Tam-Bảo
 chứng giám lòng con.
Bao nhiêu phước lành
 nguyền xin hồi hướng
 cho đấng hai thân.
Còn sống an khang,
 phát tâm Bồ-đề
 tu hành chánh giác.
Nếu đã quá cố
 siêu thoát trầm luân,
 sanh trong đường lành
 tu theo Chánh pháp.
Hạnh duyên đầy đủ
 Phật đạo chóng thành.

Today is the day
the Sangha completed their Rainy Retreat
 and celebrated Ullambana.
All of us,
 monks, nuns and lay Buddhists,
 call to mind
 Venerable Moggallana
 who had attained
the six miraculous powers of an Arhat
and still loved his deceased mother dearly.
Where was she
in the six realms of Samsara?
He resolved to look.
Searching far and wide with his divine eyes,
 among the hungry ghosts
 he found his mother
 wandering in hunger and sufferance.
Deeply pained,
 he couldn't remain unaffected,
He went on alm rounds
and received a bowlful of rice.
Using divine legs,
he rushed to offer the rice to his mother.
Seeing the bowl of rice,
 the mother was in delight.
As her hand touch the rice,
 it turned into fire.
The Venerable's pain was indescribable;
 shedding tears,
 he hurried back
to request help from the World Honored One.
The Budddha then advised him
 to prepare for the Ullambana
to invide monks from the ten directions
 to pray heartfully together.
As soon as the ceremony was over,
the Heavenly Realm, his mother reached.
Moggalalana rejoiced
 with great happiness.
The Venerable asked the Buddha again:
 filial children, in the future
 when their parents passed away,
should they set up the ceremony?
The Buddha then said:
 celebrating Ullambana
would save the six kinds of relatives
and the seven generations of ancestors.
Following the example of Moggallana,
 the filial child
 who reached liberation,
 and still adored his parents,
As we are now,
 ordinary beings,
Our parents' loving care
 is larger than the skies and the oceans;
Children's duties,
 how can we forget?
Even devoting our whole life to them
will not fulfill our filial obligations.
We have this body
 thanks to our parents.
Even sacrificing this body
will not be worth the grace.
How could we think of
 forsaking our parents?
What kindred is dearer
 than father and mother?
Childbirth and rearing, what tough labor!
 nuturing with tender love
for the children's good health and happiness,
 parents are then satisfied.
When children start falling sick,
 they get worried.
They go here and there
 to seek physicians and cures.
Absorbed in the care of the child,
they are oblivious to all hardship.
Children are their parents' jewels
 and their treasures.
When children are out of sight,
 parents deeply saddened.
Even when they are grown-ups,
 parents can't neglect them,
 but continually love them,
 until their dying days.
They sacrifice their entire lives
 for their darling children;
Due to the children's sake,
inspite of themselves they may commit crimes.
In this life they undergo suffering,
in other lives how can they enjoy peace?
The more we think about our parents,
 the more our hearts break.
We vow to be diligent in our religious practice
 and to do good deeds.
We dedicate our merits
to our dear parents to return their benevolence.
May the Three Jewels
 certify our filial hearts.
May our auspicious merits
 be dedicated
 to our parents.
May our living parents be happy and healthy,
 may they generate Bodhicitta
 and practice the true Enlightenment.
May our deceased parents
 be liberated from evil realms,
 enter a good existence
 and practice the true Dharma.
May they preserve perfect virtues and
 auspicious conditions
 to swiftly attain Buddhahood.
