Cách hiểu này cộng với cách hiểu của bà hàng xóm trên, chữ Từ bi có nghĩa là “ngồi ỳ” thật không hơn không kém. Vì theo đúng câu bà la con, ta cũng hiểu bà la như thế này:

THE LIBERATORS
Tâm Anh
Liberation is a common word in Budhism along with the word compassion and equality.v.v...Regardless of whether it is a householder or a monastic, people always talk about it as seeking the path of liberation, serving the path of liberation, and going to the scene of liberation.v.v...But its meaning is only used by those who understand the dharma, but a group of sisters, like me, use it without understanding the meaning or dimly understanding it, until someone asks just answer with dimples. Roughly speaking like the word compassion. The other day, a neighbor yelled at her children: “I can’t do all the work, but you just sit around like that?” Another day, in a Buddhist class, I asked a child: “What is the word compassion?” He quickly: “Compassion is gentle” (?) Seeing me silence, another child stood up: “Yes, compassion is quiet”(?) This understanding plus the understanding of the neighbor on the word compassion which means “sitting still”, nothing more nothing less. Because according to the saying of her son, we understand her like this.
“I can’t do all the work but you sit idle”. It’s too much to understand like that. In fact, the word compassion reparates and explains it then the kindness is bringing joy to someone, Compassion is bringing someone out of suffering. In general, compassion means saving suffering giving joy. But my friend yelled at him: “I can’t do all the work, but you just sit around saving suffering and enjoying freedom?” Who can listen? Strictly speaking, compassion word has a positive meaning but because people don’t understand it, people use the wrong meaning. The same is true of liberation. One day, I was asked by a Chief layman of Buddhist members at the temple: “What is liberation?”
I answer: “Liberation is the opening of all ties in the mind”.
For others, I just answered yes. By the way by chance, I met him who didn’t accept my answer. Uncle asked again: “Who tied?” “Who bind?” “Who opened?” I became flustered, answered warmly, then replied to another topic. He probably knew that I was confussed (can’t answer), so he didn’t ask more. When I returned to the pagoda, I was angry myself, I searched for any the Discourse (Sutta pitaka), the Discipline (Vinaya Pitaka) and Ultimate Doctrine (Abhidhamma Pitaka) but I couldn’t find a piece to explain it. Once day, on the occasion of studying Knowledge only, I suddenly saw the map of the Eight consciousness and I suddenly remembered and paid attention to learn. So I would like to clumsily draw it here for you to see and understand clearly in case any one asks from “get stuck”problem like me. This is the map in the Mind Only
This is a map in Siddhi -Sastra
Because this article does not pay attention to the whole Mind Only, so please refrain from discussing much. Now, I just talk Manas, Alayda and talk a little about consciousness. Manas (you notice on the map) is the attachment of “self” as I usually attach to my country, my house...” my is Alayda. Manas often accepts alayda as self, clinging to the self that does not leave. If when a being’s body dies, the previous six consciousness (eyes, ears...) will all disintegrate, only Manas clinging to Alaya. So only consciousness for example 6 previous consciousness like six Ministries, Alaya was the king, established an Empire, although there were six ministries, but only the queen was often nearby the king, she never left. If you borrow the sentence of Duong Minh Hoang and Duong Quy Phi (in the lesson of Truong Han Thien) and copy it into here, it is very correct.
The heaven and the earth will surely fall apart
She will follow her husband not far away
That is Alayda goes to heaven, hell or is reborn as a human..Manas also follows, Manas has been closely associated with Alaya, plus he has a sense of squandering a lot of things and then giving it to Manas. The reason why sentient beings are crazy about suffering and can’t be liberated because of these (Manas and Consciousness)
One day, an old lady with low legs and high legs came looking for me, when she saw me, she cried: “Yeh, I’m so miserable, you think I’ll feed if it is hungry, I’ll take care of when it’s cold, when it’s pain I’ll take medicine. If it’s cold, it’s cinnamon...but the two of them have the heart to lead me to hell, do you think it’s hard? I was surprised to know who he was, but the old woman continued: “Especially the Manas, it’s too much”. At first, I thought there was a Western or a Chinese girl named Manas who came to report her life, so I rushed, comforted her and asked “Is there a young girl named Manas has just entered the monkhood that I don’t know? Did they irritate her? Is she big or small? Where? I asked incessantly to make the old lady laugh: “That’s my Manas, one more brother who stands on the edge of a distoeted consciousness”. Then she poured her heart out: “Hey! I was fanning the stove to decoct and suddenly I heard someone say anything, I would have put the fan down and listened attentively (Discrimination consciousness) even though some words could be heard clearly and some were lost. I thought they must be saying something bad about me (Manas of self- grasping) and then I was going to put down herbs and start a fight. But fortunately for three generations, I suddenly remembered the teaching: Don’t believe them (Manas, Consciousness) that lead me to hell, then I sat there and brooded over it for a long time. This interesting confession, I don’t know who to talk to, so I’m looking for her to explain”. I commended the old woman and advised her as well as advising myself, that in any such case, you should have surgery to find out the Manas and Consciousness, If you know its appearance then, that is, open all obstacles and be healed so liberated.
The reason the Buddha is called the liberated One because He is no longer attached to the Manas. Here is a story to prove it. Someone asked me why is the Buddha sitting under a tree, there is a cobra wrapped around his body but it doesn’t bite? Because I did not believe in the Buddha’s miraculous powers, but only based on reality to why did the Buddha at that time be completely human, with a perfect face and face, but snakes didn’t bite? I replied: “Because the Buddha is the one who is liberated”, “How do you know?” According to epistemology, every person (or every being) has an Alayda and Manas (self- grasping). If that’s the case, snakes must definitely bite when meeting other people, why is that? Because the other person “preserves” his own “self”, even at that moment the snake also “preserve” its “self”. So if snakes don’t bit people first, people must kill them to preserve their “self”.
The eight consciousness is Alaya – The seed of good and evil self.
The seventh consciousness is Manas of self-grasping that considers the self (the ego) to be there, holding it to push and pull it along with the six consciousnesses into the deep cave.
On the contrary, the Manas of the Buddha broke away from Alaya. The Buddha’s Alaya has become the Tathagata (Buddha-nature).
If one side forgets its own self, it will be compatible with the other side, so the snake does not see the Buddha as the opponent. Therefore, not only snakes do not bite the Buddha but He subdues them.
As the Patriarches, the reason is to find the high mountains and the bottom of the sea to practice quietly without fear of evil beasts, but to subdue them, why? Because they have forgotten the self of their own. They are examples of liberation.
Add a few characters of liberation. Uncle A wore a blue ao dai, covered with a scarf, put on shoes, held an embrella in his hand, and his outfit was brand new. Uncle just got out of the house, went away for a while (in the past, few people use the car) then suddenly a guy ran over, he looked at it, then he said: “Ah! These shoes are mine, why did you take them?” Uncle A looked down in amazement: “Are your shoes real?”
“Oh, I’m not joking, it’s obviously my shoes.”
Without changing his face, he smiled and took out his shoes and gave them to him. After walking for a while, Uncle suddenly heard a thud behind, He looked back and saw the silly guy again. Uncle thought: Maybe this guy looks at the blue ao dai again. But no, he brought his shoes and was polite:
“Sorry Sir, it’s not my shoes. I’ll give it back to you”. Still not changing his face, Uncle cleaned his feet then put on shoes.
And here is a guy who got slapped on a swollen cheek, he’s happy: “Hey, does your hand hurt? If not, please slap this side again to make it swell to match each other.” After saying that, he stroked his cheek, how will the opponent behave? The first way is to bow, the second way is to run away. Why? Because the other man has overcome the ego, so at the same time his self also disappears, by one of the two ways above, which is typical of liberation.
Therefore, when speaking to liberation, one must immediatelly remember that liberation is when Manas is willing to separate from that Alayda If not, but any case will be strongly preserved “self”, then everyone wants to expand their “self” to be big and wide, so this self touches that self. Therefore, there will be the fight to kill each other from the small “self” to the big “self”, the nation turns into a great rebellion. But all sins which caused to sentient beings are not released in the most part of the “consciousness”. Consciousness is to distinguish rude - self, win – lose, distort many things, then put into Manas, so that greed, hatred,...rising up. Therefore, it should be drifted forever in suffering. Beings are difficult to liberate. So there is a sentence in Knowledge only: Whenever the sixth consciouness (Discrimination consciousness) v.v.... converted into Wonderful light (proper awareness) and the seventh one (Manas) transformed into into the wisdom of equanimity (no longer this -that ) then five previous consciouness (eyes, ears,...) and the eighth Alayda will be completely liberated.
Thus, Knowledge only doctrine can show us the cause of obstacle is Manas. The cause of sin is consciousnesss. So Buddhists, when knowing its appearance, we must be strongly eliminated these two consciousnesses. Especially to separate Manas from Alayda or although has not separated yet to do rare things like the Buddha and Ancestors or the thrilling stories like the ancients.v.v...At least we have to lower the “self” a bit by less over-eating, less-costly. Although this is due to our blessing but we should look back on our fellow people around us: The hungry, withouth a drop of soup poured into the mouth; The cold, without a piece of rags to cover the body; The disease, without a drop of acute medicine.v.v...while they are living in the same scientific and civilized era...Thinking of those unfortunate people, each of us only reduce a movie ticket, a pack of aromatic cigarettes can reduce the suffering for them. Or mentally, we can hold back a little time to help people in every case they need such as helping others a word for something to be satisfied; Advise to comfort people while they are scared and resentful; Using words to bring peaceful harmony to both sides; Being forgive one’s mistakesv.v...
Now some Students, Scouts, Pupils, Buddhists have been putting on the path of liberation by practicing the virtue of profit to be presented above.
In short, all of the above work, we do somewhat, proving that we have lowered or separated from the “self”. And get like that, our Buddhists are called the prayers of liberation, serving the religion of liberation to put the steps on the path to the liberation scene.
