The Knowledge beyond Worldly Knowledge
Tỳ Kheo Thích Minh Điền Soạn
Thánh Tri dịch từ Việt sang Anh

Is it true that life school is a place of competition of worldly fame and benefit or is it actually the root of greedy desire within our heart is the main motive that generate all life troubles?

It is our misleading mind (deluded consciousness) that being divided into many tiny pieces due to the over usurpation of love desire (love inspired by desire through the five senses). It has forced us drifting purposelessly from eons of life cycles of birth and death with countless sorrows and sufferings. We constantly keep blaming ourselves and our destinies, or silently and painfully swallowing our own sufferings then blaming the Creator for creating humans and their suffering lives, or desperately leave their suffering lives to God’s will hands, or blaming the society for creating and dividing the unjust social classes cruelly!

It is the net of wrong views that we and others have built from eons, which created the strings of karmic actions that bind us and our fellow beings into the suffering world.

We create this Religion, that Philosophy, and other Doctrines that lead us into endless argument, violence, and destroy and killing each other.

Suppose that there is a Supreme and Clear-Sighted Being (God), then why did He stupefyingly create all such sorrows and sufferings in this world?

If there is a perfect philosophical doctrine, then why would it not be used as a pragmatic magnetic needle that guides human beings to be free from all their miseries and sufferings?

Is it true that those philosophical doctrines are just the falsely established products of the individual mental perception (intuitive cognition, misleading mind, deluded consciousness), or the mental perception of a community of a group of people, a race, a country, a religious belief, or a system of political doctrine?

And if that mental perception carries a humanistic view, then at least it would truly bring the genuine peace, understanding, and compassion to transform human life and existence happily?

Who can be heartless and cruel to suppress, dominate, punish, and kill someone who does not share or carry the same label as us?

And if so, then how could any of the religions, philosophies, and doctrines have any value at all in the real existence of humankind?

Meanwhile, the nature of humanity does not need any appellation or any label but simply just “love others as yourself” is sufficient.

If we love others because they have the same religion and the same spiritual faith with us, then isn’t it true that we simply just love our religion and not the people?

If we love others because they have the same skin color and the same race with us, then isn’t it true that we simply just love our race and not the people?

If we love others because they have the same view or sense of purpose and the same doctrine with us, then isn’t it true that we simply just love our ideology and not the people?

Because of the reasons above, people easily march to the extreme, create separate premises between human and human, between this religion and that religion, this race and that race, this country and that country, and this political system and that political system.

Meanwhile, “There are no social classes in the same tears having equally salty taste and in the same blood that equally red”. What a great and admirable saying that is!

Stubbornly attach to a common view, a perception, and a doctrine that carries limited and subjective understanding of the deluded consciousness would create an extreme conservative view that hinders and blocks our path to the truth.

Therefore, it is essential to open our heart and mind to welcome the winds from all directions, that bringing freshness, peace and happiness to ourselves and others. However, all intentional tendencies from the deluded consciousness to find the truth with subjectivity are just like a blind person who is lost in the thick jungle; thus, it is really difficult to find a way home.

All pre-conceived perceptions that we have carried with us can only create heavy power pressuring our heart and mind, and divide the reality. Meanwhile, the true nature of all existences is the living and encompassing essence that constantly performing magnificently and miraculously.

If self-contemplating (through meditation) our mind according to the criteria of our long-time stone-dead memories, then unintentionally we have turned to our backs and lied upside down, misses the reality with its deep and original natures. Meanwhile, we can just simply empty everything from our mind then we can be liberated, water-clear, and purified. Only then, we can see our own true selves or nature truthfully and exactly as it is without being distorted by any pre-conceived conception, any discriminate mind (consciousness) that implicates to make it diverge wrongly.

Using every ways and means to observe, recognize, guide, and control the mind is the Two Vehicles (śrāvaka and pratyekabuddha) or Theravada’s way to subdue and settle the mind down temporarily due to the observer and the ones being observed.  Meanwhile, the observer and the ones being observed are both simply just the mind itself.

However, “The Mind cannot be grasped from the outside, from the inside or from the middle. The Mind itself has to form, no perception, no dependence, and no residence. All Buddhas do not see the Mind in the past, in the present or in the future” (Buddha’s Sutra).

How could we contemplate the thing that Buddhas cannot even visualize? If we can contemplate, then that is just the contemplation about the delusions, mental objects, and etc… that come and go from our misleading mind. A sword cannot cut itself. A finger cannot touch itself. Mind cannot contemplate or visualize itself.

Meanwhile, all the things that we have been accumulated from eons of lives are just the products being borrowed from the people before us or in the past; which the people in the past called “The vomited stuffs of the Saints”. Let’s forget all the intuitive and self perceptions, which themselves have created a series of misty and useless arguments taking us into the complicated and confusing entanglement.  Let’s also forget all of what being said and even forget the forget itself. Only then, the door to the truth can immediately be opened widely and openly. All the Dharma Teachings formed by the misleading mind just creates more circles of wandering thoughts by human mental architect; that will always be imprisoned in the ever existing trap of thoughts, just like an ant crawling on the circling mouth of a bowl looking for a way out but couldn’t.

Using the mind to find the mind or use the mind to contemplate the mind is no different than trying to avoid one’s shadow while standing under the shining sun. One doesn’t understand that it is just “A head grows more heads on top, snow receives more frosty snow.”

Enlightening the truth is not limited by the words and language of knowledge borrowed from the past, applied to the present and planned for the future.

The truth and enlightened knowledge (or wisdom) is way beyond the worldly knowledge of duality (of two sides). Doing without doing is a path without name. When the roots of misleading mind (deluded consciousness) has nowhere to attach to, then the cycle of Samsara will come into the No-Birth. When the sun rises, then the dark recesses. What is it when we give nothing and receive nothing? What IS IT?
